Mandates

Which industries the money is hunting in

A SPAC's charter usually names the industries it intends to pursue. These tags are read from the mandate sentence in each IPO prospectus, so they reflect what the vehicle told investors it would do rather than what it eventually bought.

How a mandate is read

Each prospectus states, usually in one sentence, what the vehicle intends to pursue. That sentence is what these tags come from, and each SPAC profile shows the sentence itself so you can check the reading.

A vehicle that explicitly reserves the right to pursue any industry is tagged Generalist. That is a real mandate rather than missing data, and it is common: a broad charter keeps the sponsor’s options open as the deadline approaches.

Tags describe intent, not outcome. Sponsors regularly buy outside the industry they named, and the charter almost always permits it. How SPACs work explains why the mandate is a weaker constraint than it looks.
